Waterloo, ONT. -- K-W United FC is proud to announce that Ruben Flores will be the W-League head coach in the upcoming season.
Flores played 16 years as a professional player in Mexico, Italy and the United States. He has coached more than 20 years with both genders, was an Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) regional and provincial coach for eight years and holds USSF, Canadian, Mexican and Brazilian A licenses.
"I'm really happy to participate on this new venture with Brett [Mosen] and Barry [MacLean]," Flores said. "We had a great year last year where we were and now I'm really thankful of them giving me the opportunity to coach the W-League team."
On top of his coaching experience, Flores has also been the technical director with the Burlington Youth Soccer club and is currently the technical director with the Guelph Soccer Club.
"I'm excited, hoping we can have a good year and exceed the expectations from the people that trusted me," he said.
As head coach at the Canadian National Championships, Flores has won four gold medals and two silver medals. As a player, he took part in two Youth World Cups and participated in the Barcelona Olympic Games.
Flores is also fluent in five different languages that allows him to communicate and work with different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. His experiences have allowed him to meet and get to know a lot of developed provincial and national players.
Flores is excited to be joining the K-W United FC franchise. He believes it is a good platform for himself as well as the players to make it it to the next level of professional soccer.
Open tryouts for K-W United's W-League will be held in April. As soon as possible following the tryouts, Flores plans to hold practices for the team.
"I'm hoping to see [players] all there and coming out and make the fans and the people in the area happy of having a good, competitive team," Flores said.
The W-League season will start at home on May 22 when they host the London Gryphons.
