K-W United FC are heading to the next round of the PDL playoffs after winning the Great Lakes Division wildcard game by defeating rivals Forest City London 2-0 Tuesday evening in Waterloo at University Stadium.

After the two sides finished second and third in the division respectively, the showdown was set for the fourth meeting between the teams this season, none more important than this one.

It was the visitors who came out the stronger of the two sides when London forward James Pucci went on the offensive and hit the post just two minutes in.

Pucci came close again in the 11th minute when he fired a powerful and low free kick from 35 yards that United goal keeper Nathan Ingham spotted at the last second to par the ball away from his goal.

It was a slow paced first half between the teams despite the rivalry, and both sides went into the intermission deadlocked at zeros.

The home side would come out the brighter of the two in the second half when United captain Sergio Camargo skimmed the post three minutes into the half.

London would come close five minutes later when a corner was whipped in and the cross bar was struck before a scramble in front of Ingham followed.

Ben Polk would put the home side ahead in the 61st minute after Camargo put in a low cross into the box that found Polk at the penalty spot. The forward took a touch and finished into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

Polk would double his teams lead in the 82nd minute with his second on the night. After London pushed numbers forward looking for an equalizer, Wesley Cain led a United counter attack and fed Polk through the London defence. He got past one defender and finished past Mark Haynes. The goals were number 10 and 11 for Polk who is enjoying a tremendous second half to the season.

Ben Polk was named Man of the Match for his performance.

The win sets United up with a matchup against Heartland Division winners Des Moines Menace in the round of 16 of the PDL playoffs. K-W will be looking for revenge after exiting last seasons playoffs in a penalty shootout against the Menace.
