United Open Two Game Road Trip with Win

K-W United FC travelled to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Derby City Rovers in the first of two road games on the weekend.

The team was coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss in the home opener to rivals Forest City London, but rebounded in impressive fashion to put the setback behind them.

Not even a minute into this one, striker Ben Polk finished off a pinpoint cross from striker counterpart Bryce Follensbee to put his side in front early; a massive start to United's road trip.

The Rovers responded shortly after that, however. After the two sides exchanged several opportunities, a Derby player beat United centre half Quante Smith in a one-on-one before slotting it past keeper Nathan Ingham to even the score up at ones in the 14th minute.

The visitors responded by cranking up the pressure from there. Right back Zach Ellis-Hayden - making his first start of the season - delivered a delightful performance head coach Chris Pozniak would be satisfied with. The defender whipped in a great cross in the 27th minute, but no one could get on the end of it.

United finally broke through again right before the half time whistle when captain Sergio Camargo fed Follensbee with a nice pass through the Rovers defence who made no mistake, finishing it off to give his side the advantage heading into the intermission.

United started the second half where they left off. High pressure from the second half whistle paid off in the 56th minute when Polk got on the score sheet for the second time on the night. Second half substitution Jarek Whiteman connected with Polk to add to United's lead to make it 3-1.

Derby frustrations would boil over when a player was sent off in the dying minutes.

United's resilient defence proved too much for the home side to break down, and the score would finish at 3-1.

Ben Polk was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
