Goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair earned his fourth shutout this season and Janos Löbe picked up a goal and an assist as K-W United cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Derby City Rovers on Wednesday evening. The win improves K-W United’s overall record to 5-1-0 and secures their spot at the top of the Great Lakes Division.

The game started as a defensive battle, with both teams fighting for possession. Derby City played aggressively, limiting KW-United’s chances in the slot. Derby City continued keeping K-W United out of the box, limiting their chances and forcing them to search for their opportunity.

K-W United’s patience paid off, as forward Sameer Fathazada was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty shot taken by Janos Löbe. Löbe made no mistake, putting K-W United on the board and picking up his second goal of the season. Löbe kept his point streak alive 20 minutes later, when he crossed the ball to a waiting Kamal Miller, who headed it past Derby City Rovers goalkeeper Braeden Luna to take a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime.

K-W United continued their momentum in the second half, maintaining possession and putting pressure on the Rovers defence. Fathazada picked up his fourth goal of the season when he received a perfectly-placed cross from Liam Callahan in the 59th minute, taking a 3-0 lead. The Löbe brothers, Jannik and Janos, cross the ball over to Fathazada for another chance but wasn’t able to connect, and the brothers’ shot in the 81st minute flew just wide of the net.

It proved to be enough, as K-W United picked up their fifth straight win and kept their unbeaten streak alive at home.

St. Clair improved his overall save percentage to 0.857 and his overall goals against average to 0.50, recording a single save.  Luna finished the day with four saves on seven shots, recording a 0.571 save percentage and a 3.00 save percentage.

Next, K-W United FC finishes their homestand when they play against the Cincinnati Dutch Lions on Sunday June 11th. Kickoff time is at 4p.m. at Wilfrid Laurier University Stadium.
